A Very Little
About Me
When I was 16, I thought there was no reason for abortion. It all seemed so simple. If you don't want kids, don't get pregnant, right? I was possessed with the simple minded clear-cut thinking that still remains the stalwart of anti-choice government and church power oriented thinkers today. I didn't think much about it, but I knew I was right.
By the time I was 20, I had conservative views (not to be confused with modern Republican views). I had developed a respect for individual rights and began to recognized that this country was founded on the principle that people should be free from excessive government control and religious tyranny as well.
It wasn't until somewhat later that I really learned the lesson of abortion as a personal freedom.
Now I look at world events and see the lesson of that freedom. The Taliban were anti-abortion and could execute women for "crimes" far less serious than abortion. The Taliban had what the Christian Right want, religious controls in government. The Taliban had control over every aspect of a woman's life. The Christian Right want that very same thing and are fighting for it by forcing their religious beliefs into government. Abortion is, perhaps, the best example of the Christian Right's fight to eliminate freedom over one's own body.
Abortion is not and shouldn't be for everyone. It should simply be a choice among many; a choice not bridled by ignorance, hatred of women or the belief that our Constitution is subservient to someone's religious ranting.
I hope this helps you know me, but most of all, I hope this website helps you find the right answer for you.
